1990s Documentary: The Grainger Town Project (10 mins)

This documentary explains the origins of Newcastle city centre's Grainger Town and the plans to regenerate the area in the late 1990's.

The Grainger Town Project, was an SRB-funded regeneration partnership between Newcastle City Council, English Heritage and English Partnerships. The project worked for six years between 1997 and 2003 on the regeneration of the area, investing £40 million of public funds.

In this report from 1993, the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation list their achievements so far in respect of their major projects: Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle Quayside, Royal Quays in North Shields, Sunderland's North Dock and North Sands Business Centre.

The Story of Newcastle's Silicon Alley (2003) (12 mins)

Project North East redeveloped a group of buildings in Newcastle's Pink Lane and Westgate Road. The once run-down area became home to numerous creative and multimedia firms, forming a thriving business community known as Silicon Alley.

Projects on Target (1992) Tyne and Wear Development Corporation (12 mins)

This video from 1992 reports on progress made to regenerate the Tyne and Wear region by the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation, and the amounts invested into areas including the Royal Quays, St Peters Riverside, Viking Industrial Park and the Sunderland Enterprise Park.

1990s Documentary: Action on Estates, by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (35 mins)

A documentary by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Quest Trust from about 1995. It looks at case studies of housing estates in Britain and the partnerships established between developers, councils and residents. The series is called Action on Estates and this programme is titled Unleashing the Potential.
